Prof. Azcárraga was born in Valencia ( Spain ). He received his undergraduate degree in Physics at the University Complutense ( Madrid ) in 1963 and subsequently completed his PhD studies at the University of Barcelona in 1968, where he stayed there until 1973.

Before that, he spent two years (1969-1971) as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Cambridge (UK).

In 1974 he moved to the University of Salamanca as professor “agregado” of physics and mathematics.
He returned to Valencia in 1978 because he gained a full professor position at the department of Theoretical Physics at the Faculty of Physics where he share his time with the institute of Corpuscular Physics in Valencia .

He has also been head of the departments of theoretical physics in both Salamanca and Valencia universities for several years as well as secretary of the faculty of Sciences at the Salamanca university.

His research interests are centred on M-theory, deformed spacetime, and groups and geometrical structures in physics.

He was also granted with different grants and prizes, for example, the research prize in 2003 by the Polish Minister of Education and Sports and in 2005 he was awarded with a special Prize by the Spanish Society of Physics.

He is also membership of different European and American scientific societies, editor of the Proceedings of several conferences and to date, he has published more than 150 research papers and book chapters. He is also author of several books, one of them at least about  “Einstein, his world and his science”.
